Data collection instruments (loggers)

Data loggers range from simple standalone recording devices that can be manually downloaded, to Internet-capable remote terminals that can push their data to a server that users can access via an Internet browser.

At NIWA we mostly use data loggers manufactured by our Perth-based subsidiary, Unidata PTY. We have a say in the design and can feed back any useful changes to enhance a product as we use it in a wide range of practical applications.

As unlimited access to historical and real time server-based information becomes more widely known and appreciated, the demand for Internet capable loggers is growing. However there is still a place for basic loggers in applications where accessing the data isn't urgent or the project can't support the ongoing server and ISP costs associated with telemetry. 

Data Logger - DAA H-500XL

This telemetry-capable data logger is designed for remote operation and used extensively in NIWA's national hydrometric network of water level monitoring stations.

Datalogger - NIWA Ecologger

The NIWA Ecologger provides a cost-effective, telemetry-capable option for many simple environmental data collection needs.

Neon Remote Terminal (NRT Satellite) - Unidata

The NRT is a small self-contained unit which connects to sensors, records readings from them and transmits the data to a central server via satellite communications.

Neon Remote Terminal (NRT Terrestrial) - Unidata

The NRT is a small self-contained unit which connects to sensors, records readings from them and transmits the data to a central server via a cellular telephone network.

Prologger - Unidata 7001B

This has 16 analog inputs with an accuracy of better than 0.1% of full scale. You can configure inputs as single ended or differential and select from four input signal ranges.

Sealed Logger Enclosure - NIWA UNISLBO

We can supply an environmentally sealed IP66 rated enclosure suitable for housing Unidata Starloggers to give added protection. It has NIWA-standard external connectors.

Starlogger - Unidata 6004D-2

This general purpose logger is easy to program using standard Starlog software. It is suitable for standalone or telemetered applications and has an SDI-12 serial data bus.
