Every month NIWA produce a climate outlook for the next three months. These outlooks are presented in terms of the chance of the rainfall, temperature, soil moisture and river flows over the three-month period being above, near, or below normal for six large regions (see maps below).
The outlooks can be placed in historical context by referring to the rainfall and temperature data ranges for each tercile (below normal, near normal, above normal) for several locations within each outlook region.
