2026 Floating University application launched

Calling all Pacific early career researchers.

Want to gain experience working, living and conducting science at sea while exploring issues affecting your region?

Applications for the Floating University 2026 voyage were officially opened in the Solomon Islands on Friday 3 October as part of the Pacific Islands Ocean Conference by Molly Powers-Tora.

The programme is something close to Molly's heart, as she had the opportunity to take part in ship-based learning experiences in her early 20s.

"I can honestly say those experiences changed the way I look at the world and shaped the understanding and appreciation I have for the ocean that has stayed with me to this day. Today I feel extremely privileged to be able to pay it forward and help facilitate ocean-based learning experiences for Pacific Island students and ECOPs," Molly said.

At the launch, Molly shared some of the experiences of the 2025 voyage, including Antony Vavia, Yvonne Wong and Laura Williams.

Applications open until 30 November
