New Zealand Climate Update 229 - July 2018

Mean sea level pressures were higher than normal over the southern South Island and to the south, east and west of the South Island in June 2018.

El Nino – Southern Oscillation (ENSO) neutral conditions continued across the tropical Pacific during June 2018.

July – September 2018 temperatures are forecast to be near average (40% chance) or above average (40% chance) for the North Island and north of the South Island.

New Zealand’s regional climate over April – June 2018 was expected to be driven by persistence of more northeasterly airflow than normal.
