Mapping strips of the seafloor with the multibeam swath-mapping system, the Simrad EM300, from RV Tangaroa. The detailed images are then used to conduct hydrographic surveys, to identify seafloor features important to fisheries and to study seabed features, such as submarine faults, landslides and volcanoes.
