Dr Trevor Chinn has been documenting and mapping all of New Zealand's glaciers since the 1970s. He says the 2018 summer melt back is phenomenal and this year is the worst he's ever seen. Trevor estimates one third of the Southern Alps ice volume has disappeared between 1977 and 2018.
