Vonda is a marine ecologist with interest in the functioning of coastal communities and the environmental factors that influence them. She is a member of the Scientific Steering Committee for the SCAR (Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research) Science Research Programme AnT-ERA (Antarctic Thresholds - Ecosystem Resilience and Adaptation), co-chair of the SCAR Expert Group ANTOS (Antarctic Nearshore and Terrestrial Observation Systems), and a deputy director of NZARI NZ Antarctic Research Institute. Her research is focused on the implications of acidification and other anthropogenically-derived changes to our oceans, and their implications for key components of NZ and Antarctic ecosystems, most recently through the CARIM (Coastal Acidification: Rate, impacts and Management) research project.
