Njimec mangrove forest

Njimec mangrove forest, a view from the north. The uplifted carbonate platform is exposed to storms and occasional tsunami. The reef platform is less than 100 m wide, plunging to 800 m water depth within a kilometre of the shore.  The channels are formed by large, rare waves that overtop the low-lying platform.  [Photo: Riccardo Rodolfo-Metalpa, IRD Noumea (May 2023)]
