Biography

Alex has over 25 years of academia experience in aquaculture research, focusing mainly on the nutrition and metabolism of finfish and crustacean species. The overarching theme of his research career has been aligning aquafeed development/utilization with the metabolism of target species to promote the growth, feed efficiency, health, and post-harvest quality of aquaculture species. He is mainly interested in the nutrition of polyunsaturated fatty acids, translating the knowledge of lipid metabolism to sustainable practices in the aquafeed industry. Alex’s expertise combines investigating the nutritional requirements of new and established aquaculture species, evaluating the potential and limitations of novel feed ingredients, and delineating the species’ response at the physiological, cellular, and molecular levels.
Alex also serves on the Editorial Board of Reviews in Aquaculture and is the Chief Editor of Tropical Life Science Research journal.
