Quality Assurance for Community-Based Monitoring

A national quality assurance (QA) framework for community-based monitoring (CBM) of Aotearoa New Zealand’s freshwaters.

Make Your Stream Monitoring Data Count – A national quality assurance (QA) framework for community-based monitoring (CBM) of Aotearoa New Zealand’s freshwaters.

A national QA framework is available to support community and CBM groups to collect freshwater data of a known quality that are ‘fit for purpose’. The framework will also help to increase the visibility and use of the data in freshwater management.

The framework focuses on monitoring of stream health and is built around an initial set of 28 indicators. The framework provides an electronic monitoring and quality plan template, guidance document, electronic field form templates and a supporting background report.

NIWA is proud to have led the delivery of the new national QA framework for community-based monitoring overseen by Juliet Milne, on behalf of regional councils.
