Specific learning intentions
Learners will:
- Apply their understanding of climate change including adaptation and why it is important to lessen climate change impacts, providing examples e.g., sea level rise, flooding.
- Identify what is important to them in their community and assess their community’s risk and resilience to predicted climate change impacts.
- Investigate regional impacts of climate change, now and into the future
- Explore possible adaptation options while considering cost, ease, timeliness, and any limitations including uncertainty.

Success criteria
Learners will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of climate change, its predicted impacts and adaptation as a response, providing examples.
- Identify what is important to them in their community including any potential climate change risks and the community’s resilience to those risks.
- Explain the predicted regional impacts of climate change, now and into the future.
- Consider different climate change adaptation options; take into account the varying perspectives that will inform community choice.
Key climate change background knowledge
Students will have some understanding of:
- The difference between weather and climate.
- Natural and human caused/anthropogenic climate change and its causes.
- The predicted impacts of anthropogenic climate change on weather, the ocean/sea, wildlife, infrastructure, health etc.
- The two main responses when planning for the impacts of climate change: mitigation and adaptation.
- Respecting and communicating different perspectives and worldviews when discussing climate change understanding and responses.
