Desmonema gaudichaudi jellyfish

On Friday November 11th, a large spotted jellyfish was seen floating just off the coast in Evans Bay, 50 m north of the NIWA campus at Greta Point.

Experts used video footage and stills to solve the Case of the Mysterious Jellyfish. This spotted jelly, Desmonema gaudichaudi, is from the same family as the Lion's Mane jellyfish and is one of three species that appear regularly in Wellington harbour each year.
