Workshop report released
The coast is a place where many interests overlap and sometimes collide. These include coastal subdivision, intensified agriculture, marine farming, and marine protected areas. In May this year, the National Centres for Water Resources and Coasts & Oceans hosted a national workshop on the effects of land-based activities on the coastal environment.
Over 50 recommendations emerged from the workshop, covering gaps and issues in policy, communication, research, and data. The time has come for a greater focus on the linkages between freshwater, land, and the coast in research and management.
We have compiled the recommendations and brief record of the workshop and sent these to participants.
