Antarctic toothfish length variation

NIWA

The median (most common size) and the 90th percentile length show large variation among years (driven by the proportions of small fish present). However, there is a consistent trend arising on the north of decreasing size. The north is where one would expect to see this trend as juveniles typically do not occur there, and therefore changes in proportion are not influenced by variation in the presence of small fish. Some of this signal may be due to a small change in sex ratio, as males and females tend to be difference sizes. Black dots and lines show observed values, blue lines show the trend.
