For the three months Oct-Nov-Dec Northland, East Cape and Bay of Plenty were below normal, as were eastern and coastal Southland and Otago. -

The National Objectives Framework (NOF), requires communities to list values that reflect what is important to them about freshwater, for example ecosystem protection, recreation or irrigation. -
Nitrate toxicity guidelines for the National Objectives Framework
The National Objectives Framework (NOF), includes nitrate toxicity values applicable to lakes and river environments. NIWA has undertaken a review to provide updated nitrate guidelines to contribute to the NOF standards for nitrate-nitrogen. -

The management of cumulative effects of stressors on aquatic ecosystems research programme has been heavily involved in work developing the National Objectives Framework (NOF) for freshwater and estuaries.
