2017 - present
Group manager, Hydrological Scientist, National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA)

Senior hydrological scientist and group manager involved in range of research and commercial projects relating to surface and groundwater resource monitoring, modelling, forecasting, and management. Responsible for day-to-day management of hydrology team staff and strategic planning for business development. I am also project manager and director for multiple projects and involved in development of stakeholder and client relationships. I lead research and consulting projects across a broad range of issues in water resources management, flood risk and mitigation, hydro-power generation, and water use by primary industries.

2011 - 2016
Assistant Professor (Environmental Science), University of Nottingham, Ningbo, China.

Course director of Environmental Sciences programme at campus in China. Led teaching and research in hydro-informatics, GIS, remote sensing, and hydrological modelling (InfoWorks; GoldSim). Research in flood response and mitigation in urban hydrology in China through the ‘Sponge Cities’ project. Research for municipal government on surface water quality and impacts of sea-level rise on flood risk.

2008 - 2010 

Senior Hydrologist, SRK Consulting UK 
Surface water monitoring, modelling, and management for international mining consultancy. Responsible for scoping and feasibility studies at existing and new mine development in N Europe, and West Africa. Due diligence studies and independent expert for environmental and hydrological baseline and resource estimation studies. Use of standard surface water management packages including ArcGIS, AutoCAD, GoldSim, Aquaveo (WMS, SMS), HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS and InfoWorks.
