NIWA scientist Ned Norton has won an international award for his work on the environmental impacts of irrigation schemes.

NIWA scientist Ned Norton has won an international award for his work on the environmental impacts of irrigation schemes. Ned was awarded the Hromadka Wessex Institute Medal for his paper, ‘Predicting environmental sustainability for proposed irrigation schemes’ at the 2nd International Conference on Sustainable Irrigation, held at the University of Alicante in Spain in June.

The paper is an outcome of work Ned has being doing for both Meridian Energy on the Hunter Downs Irrigation Scheme and for the Foundation for Research, Science and Technology’s Water Allocation Programme, led by NIWA.

Ned works in NIWA’s Air Quality & Resource Management Group, based in Christchurch.
