Biography:
Steve came to NIWA from the USA where he worked on assessing and improving commercial and recreational fisheries on the west coast and Alaska. Since 2008, Steve has been a fisheries science advisor to New Zealand at the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) on research and management of fisheries in the Southern Ocean. His work there focuses on toothfish ecology, ecosystem effects of fishing, survey design, fish tagging and telemetry, and biological inputs into stock assessment. He also manages fisheries projects in the South Pacific Islands that seek to improve the sustainability and management of deepwater fisheries, and diversify into new fisheries to ensure sustainable use for the future. Steve Parker is the International Fisheries Programme Leader.
