Blog: Emergency training - 12 February
12 February 2018
Today our emergency training activity was focused on learning how to get in and out of our immersion suits, in under 2 minutes. These bulky large suits significantly prolong the time a person can stay out in subzero temperatures, and are key to enduring the cold if we were to abandon ship. The exercise also provides significant entertainment, as these suits are much harder to get on than your typical onesie! But out there in the cold water they would be our best chance for survival.
First mate Ian Popenhagen shows the features of the immersion suit, including a light that activates with water.
Team Whale poses for a picture in their immersion suits (Amelia Connell, Leena Riekkola, Pippa Low and Rochelle Constantine).
