Snow & Ice Monitoring Network records first snowfall

This is the first snowfall recorded by the new national network for snow & ice monitoring. NIWA hopes the network will eventually have 10–12 sites around the country to improve understanding of New Zealand’s snow resource and the effects of climate change. The first three sites are now operating, at Mt Cook village, at Arthur’s Pass, and at the Château at Ruapehu.
