NIWA’s Karl Safi training Hyunsik Chae from the Korean Polar Research Institute (KOPRI) how to filter seawater from the Tangaroa’s underway seawater system to retrieve particulate organic and inorganic carbon and nitrogen samples. These samples will be taken by the marine microbial team throughout the voyage primarily to calibrate the data collected by the underway system.
