A beautiful specimen of the most commonly collected primnoid from the New Zealand region, Primnoa notialis Cairns & Bayer, 2005. This species is a new record for the New Zealand region in the recently published NIWA Biodiversity Memoir (Cairns, 2016). Primnoa notialis is now known to occur off southwestern New Zealand, including the Chatham Rise, Campbell Plateau, Macquarie Ridge and Bounty Plateau.
