NIWA Wellington Science and Technology Fair

29 August 2012 to 1 September 2012

The NIWA Wellington Science and Technology Fair will take place at Victoria University in the School of Physical and Chemical Sciences, Laby Building.

Prizegiving takes place Saturday 27th August at 1pm in MacLaurin Lecture Theatre 103, Victoria University.

Public viewing of the entries is on Friday 30th 9am - 5pm and Sat 31st 9am - 12pm.

NIWA Waikato Science and Technology Fair

The NIWA Waikato Science and Technology Fair is taking place at Hamilton Gardens.

The prizegiving is taking place on the 19th August at 7pm at the University of Waikato, Pricewaterhouse Coopers Lecture Theatre, Management Building, off Hillcrest Road.

Public viewing times of the entries are Friday 24th August 9am - 10pm and Saturday 25th August 9am - 2pm.

Fifth International Albatross and Petrel Conference

13 August 2012 to 17 August 2012

NIWA is sponsoring the fifth International Albatross and Petrel conference (IAPC 5).

Following previous conferences in Hobart, Australia (1995), Hawaii, USA (2000), Montevideo, Uruguay (2004) and Cape Town, South Africa (2008), IAPC5 will be held in Wellington, New Zealand in 2012. 

The conference will cover all aspects of albatross and petrel biology, ecology, distributions and tracking, taxonomy and human interactions.  

Our Far South National tour

31 July 2012 to 16 August 2012

In February 2012 Our Far South an expedition exploring the subantarctic islands, the Southern Ocean and Antarctica took place. Forty everyday New Zealanders and 10 experts on the region, including NIWA's Rob Murdoch, took to the sea with the aim of raising New Zealanders' awareness of the area. 

This tour is an opportunity to hear about the trip, what was learned and why conservation of this region is so important.

Three one-day workshops were held in July 2012, administered by the New Zealand Planning Institute and the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand.

Marine extremes and everything inbetween is a joint conference between the Australian Marine Sciences Association and the New Zealand Marine Sciences Society (AMSA-NZMSS).
