Retrospective - January to March Outlook

The climate we predicted and what actually happened.

Predicted rainfall: Rainfall is likely to be below normal in the north and east of the North Island, normal or below normal in the northern South Island, and near normal elsewhere.

Outcome: Near normal rainfall for the majority of New Zealand apart from below normal rainfall over Auckland, Northland, north Waikato, the Coromandel Peninsular, central North Island, south Taranaki, Wellington City, the Kapiti coast, Golden Bay, parts of Marlborough, coastal Canterbury and coastal Otago. Above normal rainfall over the Wairarapa coast and Stewart Island. 

Predicted air temperature: Air temperatures are likely to be average or below average in all regions.

Outcome: Above average temperatures in parts of Northland, the Coromandel Peninsular, the Bay of Plenty, Gisborne, Nelson, Marlborough, Westport, parts of south Canterbury, Otago and parts of Southland. Average temperature elsewhere.
