Retrospective - December to February Outlook

The climate we predicted and what actually happened.

Predicted rainfall: Rainfall is likely to be normal or below normal in the north and east of the North Island, and in Nelson-Marlborough, and near normal elsewhere.

Outcome: Near normal rainfall for the majority of the New Zealand apart from below normal rainfall over parts of Auckland, Northland, South Canterbury and Coastal Otago, and above normal rainfall over parts of the south east of the North Island.

Predicted air temperature: Air temperatures are likely to be below average or average in all South Island regions and in the west of the North Island, and near average in other North Island regions.

Outcome: Mostly near average temperatures for New Zealand apart from below average temperatures in the Far North, the central North Island and eastern Southland, and above average temperatures over parts of Northland and Nelson/Marlborough.
